Kidnapped Orekoya kids: How we arrested nanny, Lekki armed-robbery suspects — CP

By Ikenna Asomba
The Lagos State Commissioner for Police, Mr. Kayode Aderanti has advised employers of domestic staff such as nannies, cooks, drivers and gardners to seek the services of the Divisional Police and Police Area Commands in their localities to do a profiling of their new employees before they bring them into their homes.
Aderanti made this appeal during an interview on Channels TV Sunrise Daily show, Thursday morning.
He spoke against the backdrop of the kidnap of the three kids of Mrs. Adebisi Orekoya, by a nanny, Mary Akinloye, whom she employed, last week Monday, through OLX (an online sales portal).
Just two days after Akinloye resumed work at the Lawanson Street, Surulere of Orekoya, she made-away with her three kids, Aderomola 11-month-old, Adedamola, 4, and Demola, 6, leaving behind Michael, the eldest, a boarder who was on holiday, with information that she was going to get something.

‎Aderanti however, said operatives from the Special Intelligence Burea (SIB) of the Lagos State Police Command have rescued the three kids on Tuesday, at the Shasha, Egbeda area of Lagos, adding that ‎the kids have since been reunited with their mother.
He said the suspect, was arrested on Wednesday, by 9.20pm at Shasha, Lagos‎, noting that investigations were still ongoing and the Press would soon be briefed on new developments.
According to the Lagos Police boss, “To forestall this kind of unfortunate incident, Lagosians who want to employ the services of domestic staff should visit the Divisional Police or Area Commands within their locality to seek a Police profiling of the said staff. Seeking a profiling of employed domestic staff by the Police Divisions and Area Commanders is easier and bears no cost-implication,”he said.
The CP added that “the profiling of the domestic staff before they are employed also helps to check if they have had any previous criminal background, and as well helps to get their data such as fingerprint, photograph, name and other personal information.
“This profiling step helps the Police to quickly and efficiently arrest the situation should the employed domestic staff engage in any criminal activity after being employed,” he advised.
Also speaking on the Lekki armed-robbery incident which took place last month, Aderanti said some arrests have been made, assuring that the Press would be notified of developments at a news conference later next week.
